Suspects lead deputies in a high speed chase

CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL - Three suspects are in custody in Chambers County facing burglary and theft charges after leading law enforcement in a high speed chase.

Chambers County deputies responded to a burglary call in the Welch community on August 4th.  They say the victim was able to describe the suspects' vehicle to the deputies.

Deputies say they spotted that vehicle the Walmart in Roanoke.  As Roanoke Police officers and Chambers County deputies tried to talk with the suspect, officials say the driver sped away, leading law enforcement on a high speed chase that ended with the suspects' vehicle traveling down an embankment.

Officials were able to arrest one suspect on scene.  Another ran from the scene into a wooded area but was arrested later on Chambers County Road 278.  The third suspect was left behind at Walmart.

The three suspects, David Michael Gaines, 27, Ellyn Merrilee Morgan, 30, and Donovan Brown Harrington Jr., 33 are from the Phenix City and Columbus area and were charged with Burglary 2nd degree and Theft of property 2nd degree.

Deputies say the vehicle that was used in the crime was later discovered to have been stolen out of Heard County GA.

Sheriff Lockhart would like to thank the Roanoke Police department, Randolph County Sheriffs Office and the Randolph County Drug Task Force for their assistance in the apprehension of the offenders.
