CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - The confrontation that led to a murder on Chambers County Road 153 appears to have started over a love triangle.

Detectives say the dispute began Saturday, June 8, at a local bar when Kason King, 28, started a fight with his long time friend Jarrad Smith, 32. King was allegedly upset to see Smith with his ex-girlfriend.

Around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday June 9, King shot and killed Smith in a mutual friend's home. Smith was in the shower with King's ex-girlfriend at the time.

King did not shoot the unidentified female. Instead, he kidnapped her while she suffered injuries from broken glass.

Major Mike Parrish, Chambers County Sheriff's Office, says King forced the woman into her vehicle, instructing her to take him back to his car parked about a mile away from the residence.

"King threatened the female's life several times while holding the shotgun," says Parrish. "When they arrived at his vehicle, he stepped out of her car, and she was able to escape."

King arrived at the Chambers County Sheriff's Office for questioning later the same day. He was originally arrested and charged with murder. Later, kidnapping and assault charges were also added as a result of his ex-girlfriend's report.

"It is tragic," says Parrish. "These guys being childhood friends for years and years, and then this happens over a relationship."

King remains in jail in Chambers County Detention Facility with no bond.
