COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - More than 300 residents across the Chattahoochee Valley put on their teal Thursday for gynecologic cancer.
The Teal Tailgate is raising awareness for this type of cancer.
Mayor Teresa Tomlinson stopped by St. Francis presenting a proclamation to the hospital, declaring September Gynecologic Awareness Month in Columbus.
"We're here in celebration of our patients and to raise awareness of GYN oncology," said Renee Griner, nurse practitioner. "September is a national month to celebrate awareness for women's cancers. The cancers that we deal with are the teal color and we do ovarian, and we do cervical, uterine, vaginal and vulva cancers."
The event included a silent auction, a performance from Miss Georgia Maggie Bridges and a butterfly release in honor of those who lost their lives.
