COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - On Monday, Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson and Urban League President Marc Morial teamed up in a new initiative promoting healthy living for kids.

The busy lives, everyday responsibilities and an "on-the-go" lifestyles most parents can have sometimes interfere with essential preparation of healthy meals and snacks for kids.

In addition to those challenges, there are constant rises in food costs, making organic and whole foods, which can be an obstacle for the average household budget.

In new initiatives, the Urban League is taking steps toward teaching families the importance of preparation of healthy meals and snacks by way of a Public Service Announcement.

The PSA was produced locally at Trilogy Production on Monday, and not only promotes healthy snack options, but will inform families on ways to cut costs.

Tomlinson partnered with the Urban League for the promotional series where families received tips on how to make affordable and healthy snacks while spending quality time with kids.

The transformational moment included the Urban League, the Mayor of Columbus and Muscogee County Students.
