Oldest known photo of a human found - taken in 1838

(WIKIMEDIA/CNN) - A great treasure has been found - it's believed to be the oldest surviving photograph of a person.

The photograph is a street scene in Paris, captured by photography pioneer Louis Daguerre in 1838.

It was published online by Wikimedia.

In the lower left corner, you can see a man who appears to be getting his shoes or boots shined.

The image has been available online before, but a higher resolution version is gaining attention on the internet this week.

It is not the earliest surviving photograph – older images exist, but they only show scenery, not people, because they took so long to develop.
