Alabama's retirement funds perform well

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Good news for those in Alabama who depend on the state's Retirement System. Doctor David Bronner, the head of Alabama's Retirement System announced that good news today.

The teachers' Retirement System, Employees' Retirement System and the Judicial Retirement Fund returns were all over 12 percent.

Dr. Bronner described the funds' performance as outstanding in spite of lingering economic challenges.

"The last five years we have been in the top 25 percent in America for retirement systems as a whole. Even better news...this well as the last three years, it's in the top 13 percent of all pensions in America," says Bronner.

According to the National Institute on Retirement Security, Alabama's RSA supports about 36,000 jobs in the state.
