AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - The city of Auburn and Auburn University came together Thursday night in the spirit of the holidays to light the Samford Christmas tree and menorah.
Student leaders explained the ceremony isn't just about the lighting of the tree and the menorah; it also provides a chance to gather in celebration. They wanted to provide an opportunity to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season with the entire Auburn family.
"Tonight regardless of your tradition, your background or your beliefs, we come together for the good of mankind and for the good of each other and the good will for each other," stated Bobby Woodard, associate provost and vice president for student affairs.
Nearly 100 people watched as the tree and menorah were lit. AU says the ceremony is a way to celebrate the diversity on campus.
