PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - The Phenix City Council met Tuesday night to discuss improvements to the city's wastewater treatment plant.
City council members announced a grant agreement with the delta regional authority to make the improvements to the plant.
The grant totals more than $143,000 and is part of improvement plan mandated by Alabama Environmental Management Commission.
"We have to properly treat all the sanitary sewage comes in that plan before we can discharge back into the Chattahoochee River so that those people south of us have access to that water," explained Roger Conner, utilities director.
This is all part of the ongoing improvements for the city's sewage system.
