1 shot outside nightclub early Wednesday
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A shooting took place outside the After 5 Sports Bar and Grill, located on the 1800 block of Midtown Drive shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The victim, identified by Hollimon Waller, 26, of Phenix City, AL, was shot outside of the club, and was taken to Saint Francis Hospital having suffered gunshot wounds to the lower back and left leg. His condition is unknown at this time, and he was transferred to Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta in the ICU. His condition was not given. No one else was injured, despite there being a large crowd in the parking lot, according to witnesses.
An altercation in the parking lot led to the shooting. Twelve shots were fired from a 9 mm handgun.
Kenneth Washington, an eyewitness, said he saw his friend getting into an argument outside with a group of men. He said he tried to intervene but he couldn't make it outside in time.
"Once I finally got his attention, he looked at me and started to walk off and out of the group of 10 guys one ran out and took a punch at him, he ducked and took off running and from there I couldn't see him and I looked back at the group and i just seen the younger black guy hold up a pistol and start shooting," Washington said.
Police were on the scene to interview witnesses, who confirmed the incident happened outside in the parking lot of this establishment. It is not clear whether police have obtained surveillance video of the area.
One witness said that guns and other weapons aren't even allowed on the property and that nothing like this has happened their before.
Columbus police have not made an arrest in this shooting and details are limited at this time.
