COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A man was shot multiple times outside of a gas station shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Police investigators say Lawrence Jackson, 28, was shot outside of the Chevron gas station located at 3161 Macon Rd. around 12:05 a.m.

When police arrived to the scene, the victim had already been transported to St. Francis Hospital with gunshot wounds in his lower torso.

The victim is expected to recover from the injuries, which aren't life-threatening, but he has since been transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

The suspect is still at large.

Jackson said he doesn't know who shot him. He told police that he was out earlier Tuesday evening celebrating his birthday, which is Wednesday. He also told police he was putting air in his tire when he was shot.

During the early stages of the investigation, police recovered 11 shell casings near the air pump at the gas station.

The police investigation is attempting to recover any surveillance video.
