Shooting at Whisperwood Apts. sends man to hospital

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - An attempted robbery at Whisperwood Apartments in Columbus sent a man to the hospital Tuesday, Jan. 27 at about 9:15 p.m.

The incident began when the victim, 30-year-old Hamilton Tongkeaman, left his apartment to get something out of his truck. The suspect then  approached him and tried to steal it. Tongkeaman and the suspect struggled and a gun went off, shooting the victim in the upper thigh.

The victim was he was transported to Midtown Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.

Columbus detectives say the suspect has not been identified and no further details are available at this time.

Officials say it's important to always be aware of your surroundings and to call 911 if you see anyone acting suspicious.

The shooting remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Columbus Police at 706-653-3400.
