COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - An Auburn graduate has pleaded guilty in a drunk driving accident that killed his girlfriend, who was also an Auburn graduate.

Collier Ann Byers and her boyfriend Parker Ivey, had known each other since they were little kids.

Now, Collier Anne Byers will never live to see age 23, and her boyfriend will serve time in prison.

24-year-old Parker Ivey sobbed in court, as he apologized to his girlfriend's family for causing her death while drinking and driving.

Collier Anne Byers was 22-years-old, when the car Ivey was driving crashed on interstate 85 near Opelika, as the couple was returning from a Braves baseball game in 2013.

The young couple had known each other since elementary school and both graduated from Auburn.

Collier Anne's family says their grief is unimaginable, and they pray others see their story, know their pain and the devastating loss associated with drinking and driving.

Ivey will be sentenced at a later date.

The families hope others will learn from this horrific tragedy and drink responsibly.
