COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A large brush fire happened around 1 p.m. on Saturday at Rigdon Park behind Oakland Park subdivision.

Firefighters from Columbus, Phenix City and Georgia Forestry were working to control and extinguish the fire. It spread quickly across 40 acres due to high winds and dry brush.

Chief Watson says his main concern was getting a break in the fire and holding it back from homes in the Oakland Park Subdivision. Watson did not know the cause of the fire.
