COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A woman in Alabama is behind bars tonight, February 27, after making her way into an elementary school—with a loaded gun.
No shots were fired.
But the woman did get inside the school—threatening to kill her sister who works there.
The suspect, Barbara Grice, is now charged with making a terrorist threat, burglary and possession of a deadly weapon on school grounds.
Police say she was let in the back door of the school.
Grice was looking for her sister who is a cafeteria employee.
"She came to the back door and knocked on it and gained entrance and confronted her sister who locked herself in the office. She then—after she could not get through—she attempted to leave and that's then we arrived and took her into custody," says Chief of Police Stan Devane.
Police say Grice had a long-running dispute with her sister.
Authorities say the noise of breaking glass could have sounded like a gun triggering the false reports of shots fired.
No one was injured during the incident.
