PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - A Phenix City man is fighting for his life after he was hit by a car on his bicycle and then run over by a second vehicle.

Early Thursday morning, Sean K. Rey, 26, of Phenix City, was riding his bike to work for his 6 a.m. shift at Chevron on Summerville Road, but he never made it.

Phenix City Police say Rey collided with a car and was then run over by second vehicle that left the scene.

"He lives right down the road and he rode his bike all the time to the Chevron. Everyone knows him," explains friend Ashley Burt.

Rey is now in the intensive care unit at Midtown Medical Center with several severe injuries, and is currently listed in critical condition as of early Friday afternoon. Since the accident, social media has been flooded with prayer requests and well wishes.

"The family didn't deserve this, but we are thinking about you Sean and we love you," says friend Stephen Youngstrom.

Friends describe Rey as a sweet and determined worker, who would do anything for anyone.

"He is one of my buddies up here (at Chevron), he makes the time go by very fast," explains co-worker Mary Rector.

"He is always a good person to talk to," explains Youngstrom. "He loves to make you laugh."

Phenix City Police are now searching for the red or maroon sedan that fled the scene. Friends of Rey are pleading the suspect to turn themselves in.

"Please. He has a family, he has friends who care about him and love him. Please don't let us suffer," says Burt.

This case remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call the police department at (334) 298-0611.

Family and friends of Rey have began a fundraiser to help with his medical bills. You can purchase a t-shirt for $20 by clicking here.
