No injuries after truck catches fire on Macon Road

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Sheriff's deputies and firefighters responded to a truck fire Friday afternoon in Columbus.

A Navy veteran traveling on Macon Road noticed a fire coming from under the hood of his truck.

Harold Lucas says his engine caught on fire and to prevent clogging traffic he acted immediately pulled over. A sheriff's deputy happened to be driving by and responded to the scene.

"I get out of here and pull it away from the truck and then I jumped out or anything it just burned and I'm trying to go before it explode and I'm gone," Lucas recalled.

Thankfully no one was hurt. There is no word yet on the cause.
