PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) – Wednesday marks National Veggie Day and the Phenix City Farmers' Market offered plenty of fruits and vegetables.
The market is located behind the Central Activities Center on 14th Street. Vendors were selling items such as tomatoes, squash and watermelons.
Justin Young with Backyard Orchards says the food is good for you and buying from the farmers market helps supports the community.
"Any time you have fresh food, the fresh foods is always better than the processed stuff," Young said. "You're also supporting local families and the local economy, the more you can do that the better it is."
Eating more fruits and vegetables also helps you stay hydrated in the intense heat.
The Phenix City Farmers' Market is open every Wednesday from 7 a.m. until noon.
