COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Three new assistant principals were approved during Monday night's special called meeting of the Muscogee County School Board.
The three new assistant principals are Lamont Sheffield at Baker Middle School, Brenda Merritt at Rothschild Leadership Academy and Kathleen Houston who will serve at Allen Elementary School and Wynnton Arts Academy.
Each of these new assistant principals have been teaching for more than a decade, and all participated as academic coaches in the school district. At Monday night's meeting, all three said they were ready to take on their new roles.
"I'm excited to work with students at Rothschild Leadership Academy and I am excited to continue my career at Muscogee School District," said Brenda Merritt.
Lamont Sheffield shared a similar view.
"I am very honored and appreciative of the opportunity to be the assistant principal at Baker Middle school," Sheffield said. "I'm looking forward to making a difference in helping young lives."
Kathleen Houston says she is also excited about the new school year.
"I want to move the vision of Dr. Lewis' along and help the students learn and be successful," said Houston.
The school board also approved the transfers of eight employees to assistant principal positions. In other action, the board voted to approve work to be done on a new gymnasium at Jordan High School with money from the 2009 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
