Summer reading program holds graduation ceremony

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - When you think summer you might not think of more school and reading.

However, a local church wanted to make summer not just fun, but educational as well.

Saint Mary's Methodist Church got grants to create fun summer educational program for kids in second grade through fifth grade.

The program concentrated on reading and math skills. On Thursday, they finished up and held their graduation ceremony.

"Today was an awards program provided by St Mary's United Methodist Church, this personifies the message of schools cannot do it alone," explained Superintendent David Lewis. "They've undertaken this ministry and it's one that I hope other aspects of the community will replicate in the future years."

Now that they have finish up their educational fun the kids say they are going to spending their time doing more traditional summer fun stuff like swimming or going to the park.
