COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Their motto is "Let's Wave Cancer Goodbye" and Monday night was the kickoff for an event to help do just that.

Team captains met in Columbus to prepare for the 6th annual "Paint the Town Pink" 5K Glow Run and Walk. The event will be held October 2 at the Woodruff Park Dillingham Bridge in Columbus.

Prior to the walk there will be a Survivor Celebration and Butterfly Release in the Grand Lobby of the River Center beginning at 5 p.m.  The walk-run will follow that ceremony and start at 7:30 p.m.

All of the proceeds from event will benefit the West Central Georgia Cancer Coalition and be used for cancer research, outreach and education.

Online registration for the Glow Run and Walk began Monday, August 17. The cost for the event with a T-shirt is $30 until September 30; after that the price goes up to $40.
