FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) – Despite the efforts of local leaders, it looks like Fort Benning is going to lose the Third Brigade. The soldiers are being reassigned and more than likely will not be coming back.
This move was unavoidable as the U.S. Army was ordered to cut back its force.
Gary Jones with the Columbus Chamber of Commerce says hope is not lost, but the fight continues to get another brigade back on post.
The chamber is still seeking signatures on its petition to fight sequestration, click here to view the petition and sign it. So far, nearly 4,400 people have signed the petition.
