COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Over 30,000 people travel on and off Fort Benning daily, and due to construction there will be traffic delays because of a year-long construction project.
In order to avoid traffic accidents, there will be road closures located at Lindsey Creek Parkway, Lindsey Creek Bridges North and South bound lanes. However, the closures will be broken down into phases and the construction is between the Custer Road Exit and Marne Road Exit along the highway.
The heaviest travel times are between 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., and delays are undetermined at this time but it is estimated between 15 to 45 minutes longer. On Oct. 22 and Oct. 23 concrete barriers will be places so expect some delays.
This construction project will take about a year to re-deck two bridges and it will be done in several phases. It is highly recommended that you use Fort Benning Road ACP entrance of Victory Drive to access Main Post.
You may also use the Custer Road to get to Main Post. You can still use I-85 ACP entrance to Fort Benning, but it is advised that you use extreme caution and obey the sped limits for everyone's safety.
