COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A man wanted for a shooting in June is now in police custody.

Javarius Gary is being held at Muscogee County Jail after officials say he was on the run for months after an arrest warrant was issued in the shooting of Leonardo Johnson.

The shooting happened on June 2 on Ewart Avenue and 8th Street. The victim was shot in the chest.

Detectives say they found Gary at Motel Six on Victory Drive on Monday morning, following a witness tip. He tried to get away by jumping from a second-story balcony and jumped a fence, but they were able to take him into custody. During the pursuit, he broke his ankle.

Gary is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, armed robbery and the added charge of obstruction for running from police.

During his recorder's court appearance on Wednesday, he was given no bond for the armed robbery, but a total of $66,000 for the other charges.
