Hurtsboro woman killed in single-car accident in Lee Co.

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - A Hurtsboro woman was killed during a single-car accident on Friday morning.

At approximately 6:10 a.m. on Friday, EMS and law enforcement responded to a single vehicle accident in the 9000 block of Alabama Highway 51 in Beauregard south of Opelika.

Upon arrival they found Lawanda Yvonne Kelley, 35, of Hurtsboro, with no signs of life. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Lee County Deputy Coroner Charlotte Patterson.

Kelley was the sole occupant and operator of her vehicle.

It appears that Kelley was traveling south on AL Hwy 51 when she apparently left the roadway and overturned several times ejecting her from her vehicle.

It appears she was not wearing a seatbelt. She died from multiple blunt force impact injuries. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor and it is believed that she may have fell asleep at the wheel causing the accident.

No postmortem exam is planned. The accident remains under investigation by the State Troopers of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Lee County Coroner's Office.
