COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - It was all about raising awareness and money for Lupus at an event at Columbus State University on Thursday night.
The Georgia Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America held a kick-off party to get participants fired up and ready for the upcoming Lupus Walk/Run in Columbus on May 14.
Eighty people were expected for last year's walk but it ended up attracting more than 450 walkers and runners. Organizers are trying to get students, campus organizations and others to come out and support this cause.
"To let them know that they're not alone. To find a support group, you can visit our website at lupusga.org and all of that information is there, all the support group leaders. It's like one big family. 55,000 Georgians have Lupus so it's really important to let them know they're not alone," said one organizer for the event.
More than $23,000 was raised during last year's event. WTVM is a proud sponsor of this year's walk.
