CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - A man indicted with capital murder and kidnapping charges last month appeared in court on Monday.
Stacey Gray, 45, was in court late Monday afternoon for his arraignment hearing, scheduled after his Feb. 12 indictment for the brutal rape and murder of Renee Eldridge in July 2015.
Gray faces capital murder and capital rape charges. He pled not guilty.
Eldridge was discovered missing from her home on 46th Street in Columbus on July 4. Police say Gray knew Eldridge and was considered a friend of her family.
Valley police allege Gray beat her to death around July 4, then tried to dispose of the body by binding her feet to a cement block and throwing her into the Osanippa Creek under the Hopewell Road Bridge.
Her body was discovered by Valley Police officers on routine patrol on July 7.
