AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - The Auburn Police Division arrested Maurice B. Gay Jr., 18, of Opelika on warrants charging him with robbery first degree and assault second degree on Thursday, March 10.
The arrest is the result of an investigation by Auburn Police into a robbery that occurred on March 4 near a residence in the 400 block of N. Dean Road.
Officers responded after the victim was assaulted and robbed by two individuals while playing basketball. They took his cell phone, clothing items and U.S. currency with a total value of more than $600.
The victim sustained minor injuries and was transported to EAMC emergency room for treatment and later released.
An investigation into the incident by Auburn Police resulted in Maurice Gay Jr., who was known by the victim, being developed as one of the suspects.
Further investigation resulted in the second suspect also being identified and warrants being obtained for robbery first degree and assault second degree.
Gay was subsequently located by officers and taken into custody.
The second suspect is currently being sought by Auburn Police and his arrest is anticipated.
Gay was transported to the Lee County Jail and will be eligible for a $125,000 bond.
