ORLANDO (Ivanhoe Newswire/WTVM) -- From caffeine, to Gatorade, even raw eggs, there are some pretty wacky ways that are said to cure a hangover but which work and which don't?
We all have our personal tricks to fight off a hangover, but which ones are myths and which are true?
Myth #1: Drink more alcohol to cure a hangover. Some call this the hair of the dog. Fact is, this method only works temporarily and you may end up with a more severe hangover once it wears off.
Myth #2: Caffeine-- you may think having a cup of Joe will wake you up and give you more energy, but you're just dehydrating yourself even more, making the hangover worse.
And myth #3: Fish oil-- although it has been proven that taking fish oil can decrease hangover headaches, it doesn't work over night. It takes weeks of consistent use to be effective.
If you want to treat a hangover the right way, prevention is key. Take an ibuprofen before you plan on drinking, eat eggs and asparagus for an upset stomach and try chasing your shots with water instead of juice or soda. One glass of water between each beverage can be the difference between a happy hour and a hangover.
You can also decrease hangover symptoms by drinking electrolyte-rich fluids such as coconut water or sports drinks and drinking ginger tea. But at the end of the day, many researchers say the only thing that can truly cure a hangover, is time.
