COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - This week is Raider Awareness Week at Shaw High School in Columbus.
The purpose of the week is to look back on tragedies such as suicide that have impacted the school throughout the year.
School officials say the week will be a time to reflect, as students learn about topics such as violence and mental health.
A student with the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, the group putting on the event, says it's about finding ways to prevent these incidents.
"Shaw has faced a lot of tragedy," said Sierra Jackson. "We felt it was a much needed topic to actually bring awareness to because a lot of the students they don't understand that words and other things they do and how they act around others can actually cause somebody to commit suicide."
Students will learn about topics such as violence and mental health.
