Auburn community reacts to triple homicide

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - The relatively quiet city of Auburn was anything but on Saturday morning.

Police responded to reports of shots being fired outside Mr. D's Lodge just off of Lee County Road 83.

When they arrived, bullets were still flying and they found three men had been shot dead.

The Lee County Coroner identified the victims as 32-year-old Roderick Nelms, 25-year-old Jadarrion Spinks, and 43-year-old Recco Cobb.

All three victims are from Auburn, according to Auburn Police.

The community was shocked to hear something so violent could happen in Auburn.

"I think it is pretty surprising because I have lived in Auburn basically my whole life basically and I have never really been exposed to that kind of nasty business that happened around here," said Zach Smithson, an Auburn High School student.

Ebony Richardson recently moved to Auburn from Atlanta.

"It's pretty outrageous, I wouldn't expect something like that to happen in the Auburn-Opelika area," Richardson said. "It seems like a generally safe area."

Most of the people outside of the Tiger Den convenience store, which is only three minutes away from Mr. D's, were unfamiliar with the night club.

"I haven't really heard anything negative about it. That's why I said I was surprised it happened the other night," said Victor Murry.

Captain Lorenza Dorsey told News Leader 9 this is still an open investigation.
