(WTVM) - The #1 Chattahoochee Valley Pirates sailed smoothly through the opening round of the JUCO World Series, but they encountered some rough waters against #4 Iowa Western Tuesday night.
An early barrage from the Reivers sank the Pirates, as they fell 8-0 and into the loser's bracket.
Iowa Western put up all of their runs in the first and third innings. Two runs in the opening frame helped them jump out to an early lead, then a six-run third inning created plenty of breathing room.
CVCC was limited to just four hits by pitchers Jake Niggemeyer and Matt Eardensohn.
The Pirates will play Tuesday at 5 p.m. Eastern against Harford, a team they run-ruled in the opening round 10-2.
