Longtime Muscogee Co. community figure passes away

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A longtime community leader and activist in the valley has passed away.

Owen Ditchfield died following a battle with cancer. He was 76 years old.

Ditchfield was a Vietnam veteran who served on the Muscogee County School Board and as president of South Columbus Concerned Citizens' Group.

He was also a dedicated volunteer at the National Infantry Museum, where every Christmas, he served as the Polar Express train conductor.

He is survived by his wife, four children, and nine grandchildren.
