RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - The pursuit of a suspect ended in a crash on U.S. Hwy. 280 Friday afternoon, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
At around 3:11 p.m., an Alabama State Trooper attempted to stop a 2007 Dodge Charger for speeding on U.S. Hwy. 280 near Lee Road 158.
The suspect, who was identified as Frederrius Qumain Jones, was driving 97 miles per hour in a 65 miles per hour zone. Jones attempted to elude the trooper and a pursuit ensued.
Lee County Sheriff's Office successfully deployed spike strips on U.S. Hwy. 280. The chase ended near mile marker 118, about half a mile west of Phenix City.
Jones drove the car off the roadway, exited the car, and ran on foot. Jones was taken into custody shortly after without incident. There were no injuries in the chase.
Jones was charged with attempting to elude, speeding, and a firearm violation charge. He was taken to the Lee County Jail.
Lee and Russell County Sheriff Departments also assisted with this case.
