Phenix City donates $25K for permanent scholarship

Phenix City mayor announces major scholarship endowment for students

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) – Phenix City's mayor announced a first-of-its kind partnership and scholarship endowment between Phenix City and one of the top schools in the state.

Mayor Eddie Lowe announced a $25,000 donation by the Phenix City mayor's ball for education charity committee. That money is going to the University of Alabama alumni association and Chattahoochee Valley Bama Club for a permanent scholarship endowment.

UA will match these funds at approximately 90 percent. Now, scholarships will be awarded annually to Phenix City school students, for as long the University of Alabama exists.

"The great thing about this foundation is not only is it the first of its kind in this area and in this nation, but it's also something that is going to be permanent and residential," CV Bama Club president Blair Brown said.

"It will be a mechanism that will continue to bless our young people," Mayor Lowe said.

The endowment is named in honor of Eddie and Deborah Lowe.
