FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - Specialist Dan Lowe out of Fort Benning will participate in 10-meter air rifle qualifiers Monday morning in Rio.
Lowe is one of two members of Team USA participating. It's his first Olympics, and now he's going to compete with the best shooters in the world.
There's plenty of pressure, but Specialist Lowe is used to it, and knows this event requires a lot of mental toughness to succeed.
"You have to have a lot of determination, a lot of determination," Specialist Lowe said of the event. "You've got to be tough, really tough mentally. A lot of times in matches like that where it's not fun being up there. You're shooting along, and you shoot a little bit wide shot, like 'that might be it', d rop that 1/10 of a point, and a lot of these matches are won on 1/10 of a point. It takes iron will to go up there, stand and deliver those shots."
Ten-meter air rifle qualifiers start bright and early Monday at 8 a.m., with the finals right after that at 11 a.m.
Lowe will also compete in three-position rifle competition on Sunday, Aug. 14.
