AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – Police in Auburn are investigating the death of a pedestrian in Auburn on Tuesday evening.

According to the Lee County Coroner's Office, Auburn Police received a 911 call of someone being struck by a vehicle in the 1900 block of South College Street at around 8:30 p.m.

When police and EMS arrived they discovered Samuel E. Vaughn, 65, of Auburn, lying in the roadway unresponsive.

Vaughn was taken to East Alabama Medical Center where he later died at 9:17 p.m. from multiple blunt force impact injuries.

It appears that Vaughn was attempting to cross South College when he was struck by a southbound vehicle on South College Street.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident. Vaughn's body has been taken to the medical examiner's office in Montgomery for a postmortem exam.

The investigation of the accident is still ongoing by the Auburn Police, the Lee County Coroner's office, and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
