COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A group of local girls gathered on Saturday to help serve an orphanage in Ghana, Africa.
Young girls from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Columbus helped create Hygiene kits for the boys and girls at the Volta Home for Children in Ghana.
This project also helps fulfill the wish of Jequetta Taylor, a member of the church who is fighting terminal cancer. She tells us it's her wish to serve until her last breath.
"My main thing with this orphanage is trying to get people to acknowledge this orphanage," Taylor said. "It's very special and very small."
The girls participating in the project are also sacrificing portions of other planned activities in order to pay for the cost of the kits.
They tell us this sacrifice will be a small price to pay for an early lesson in serving others.
