COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) –  A man convicted of a deadly shooting at a gas station in 2014 learned his fate on Tuesday.

Chandler Saxton was sentenced to life in prison without parole on malice murder charges.

Officers testified that Saxton admitted to being at the Big Cat Gas Station on Buena Vista Road on July 31, 2014, and that he had a disagreement with Jones prior to the shooting.

Witnesses say Jones was ambushed at the gas pumps and shot multiple times.

Police say Jones was also armed and tried to return fire, but he did not hit anyone. Jones later died from his injuries on Aug. 2, 2014.

Saxton apologized to the victim's family prior to the sentencing.
