COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - There was a big turnout at The Loft in uptown Columbus as Mayor Teresa Tomlinson held a forum on the controversial "Thaw the Freeze."
The mayor and other city officials talked about the proposal which will be voted on in November.
Tomlinson has long been a supporter of the freeze, where any home bought after January 1 of next year will be taxed under a different system.
Meanwhile, all homes that are under the current freeze would remain the same.
"This is about getting an effective tax system, not about raising taxes. so if you believe in fiscal responsibility, you believe that additional revenues to the city should only come in two ways; growing the pie through economic development, and making efficiencies in the tax system," Tomlinson said.
Mayor Tomlinson also says the property tax is unfair to those who bought a house after 1985.
