LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - To combat the dangers of meeting strangers to exchange goods you've purchased online, the Lee County Sheriff's Office has created "safe zones" for meeting and completing these deals.

Now, you and your family have two safe locations in the front and back of the Lee County Justice Center to meet strangers during internet transactions.

The zones are also idea locations for parents or guardians to meet, talk and exchange children for the week or weekend.

Because monitored surveillance cameras are recording, Lee County deputies are keeping a watchful eye on both parties.

"It's all about avoiding circumstances of conflict and having a safe place to conduct transactions, particularly with an individual you have never met before," said Sheriff Jay Jones.

Similar safe zones exist in Harris County and Russell County.

All you need to do is call your local agencies and find out where there are.
