COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The United Negro College Fund kicked off its annual campaign to raise money for college students.
Organizers gathered at the St. Luke Ministry Center in Columbus to announce a goal of raising $200,000.
All funds raised will go directly to helping whatever students may need going through college.
The fund supports thousands of students in the Valley area and around the country.
"It's important for us to help us get to and from college," said Trends Trice, UNCF coordinator. "The challenges are even harder today than ever before so we are calling on everyone in our community to help us get students to and from college."
Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson and other sponsors were there to help kick off this event.
The fundraising culminates with the UNCF Mayor's Masked Ball, which is scheduled for Feb. 18, 2017.
