COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A Columbus teen is taking it upon himself to make sure a war memorial stays in pristine condition.

Sam Eshman, 14, says he noticed the Vietnam soldier memorial in lake heath park was in poor condition so he decided to step in.

Eshman removed leaves, pressure-washed the memorial and removed a tree growing around the memorial. Eshman says it's important to do things like this for those who sacrificed so much for our freedom.

"I feel like the least we can do is help these fallen soldiers memorials out and do them a favor and their families a favor by keeping them clean," Eshman said.

The memorial honors Major James Conrad Adams.

Sam is not finished yet. He plans to repaint the poles around the memorial and restore other soldier memorials at the park.
