Group speaks out against proposed cell phone tower at Lakebottom Park
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A group that wants to install a new cell phone tower at Lakebottom Park met with residents of the neighborhood to hear their concerns over the proposal Monday night.
Most of the people in attendance opposed the plan, not only for health reasons but because they don't want to take any historic value from the park they said.
The antenna would be in the form of a flag pole and would be assigned to T-Mobile and could service other carriers as well. The two reps from B&T GROUP showed a map of the search area and a few different antenna ideas.
"We have a public meeting and allowed the public an opportunity to come out and tell us what they think and ultimately that's what we're doing here tonight so once we get through with this meeting we'll have a better idea of where everybody stands and the city of Columbus will be able to decide how to move forward," said James McNicol with B&T Group.
One resident proposed that they moved the site off of Brown Avenue behind the old Meadows College Building.
