COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - With Thanksgiving just two days away, local organizations are giving back to the community in a big way.

On Tuesday night, the Lambda Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated held their annual Thanksgiving Giveaway.

They provided a basket of food to 10 families in the Columbus area this year.

The group says community service is part of its values and they simply wanted to provide help to someone in need this holiday season.

"It's very important for us to do this event because community service is the foundation of our fraternity and we know during this holiday season we have people that are in need that need some assistance so we are here to provide that assistance to those individuals," said Jamal De Saussure, president of Lambda Iota Chapter.

The fraternity has hosted the giveaway for more than 20 years.
