COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The suspect involved in the death of an elderly Columbus woman plead guilty in court Wednesday morning.

Angelo Short, the man police identified as the step-grandson of 83-year-old Peggy Gamble, was charged with murder on Monday.

Gamble was found dead in her 8th Street home on Monday, Nov. 28.

Her autopsy revealed that she was stabbed multiple times. Gamble's funeral will be held Wednesday at Greater Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church at noon.

Short's case has been bound over to Superior Court.

This was the second time in less than a week that Short appeared in recorder's court. He was initially arrested on Nov. 29 and charged with stealing Gamble's car and other unrelated charges, including aggravated assault.

Short was accused of punching a store clerk at the Piggly Wiggly on Brown Avenue as he attempted to steal a carton of cigarettes.

A CPD detective testified that Short smoked crack cocaine in front of officers before his arrest and yelled at them to kill him.
