Columbus' Samoan Christian Church brings aid to fire victims
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A local church came to the aid of families who lost their homes due to an apartment fire.
Last month more than a dozen Columbus families lost their homes due to an apartment fire at Woodcliff Apartments. Saturday afternoon, they received free clothes, food, and much more just in time for the holidays.
The Samoan Christian Church handed out brown paper bags full of freebies including blankets, water, and toiletries to the Woodcliff Apartment fire victims as part of their Giving Back for the Holidays event.
People also got the chance to sort through free clothes. The church's pastor says it's their way of letting people know they are loved.
"It is a feeling of love that everyone should have and we just want to reassure that feeling to those that might have faced and had the crisis this time of the year where we are celebrating the birth of your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," said Loama Sialega, Pastor of Samoan Christian Church.
The Samoan Christian Church youth group also sang Christmas Carols during the event and gave gifts to the community.
The giveaway was held at city Councilor Pops Barnes' office on Buena Vista Road.
