(WTVM) - Feb. 14 is not only Valentine's Day, it's National Donor Day. It's a time to bring awareness to what organ donations can do to save lives.

Donate Life is an alliance of national organizations committed to increasing the number of donated organs, eyes and tissue available for transplant to save lives.

Here are the numbers:

  • Nearly 5,300 people are waiting for an organ in Georgia and about 3,800 in Alabama.
  • Nationally, someone is added to the organ donation waiting list every 10 minutes.
  • On average, 22 people die every day waiting for an organ.
  • A single donor could save eight lives.

"Letting everybody know that they can celebrate the gift of donating organs, tissues, eyes, blood," said Carla Hawkins, an education specialist with LifeLink. "It's really the celebration of all types of donations living and as a deceased donor but we want to encourage everyone to share the news with everybody that you can be an organ and tissue donor and help save lives. That's what it's all about."

To raise awareness, Donate Life has teamed up with Marco's Pizza. If you post a comment, picture or video to the one you love to Marco's Facebook, Twitter or Instagram page with #DONORDAY2017 and #PIZZAFORLIFE, you have a chance to win pizza for life.

However, that's just through the end of Valentine's Day.

You can register to be an organ donor when you apply for or renew your driver's license or online at
