ATLANTA (WTVM) – As the legislative session continues at the Georgia General Assembly, some lawmakers are taking the time to recognize law enforcement statewide.

House Resolution 492, recognizes March 6 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at the capitol.

The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Gerald Greene of Cuthbert and other Georgia lawmakers, commends the nearly 54,000 certified peace officers in the state of Georgia who risk their lives every day in the line of duty to keep you and your family safe.

In the state of Georgia 699 officers have been killed in the line of duty, and 9 of those officers were lost last year.
