COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Feeding the Valley is giving us an early look of their new warehouse.

The new food bank is located off Flat Rock Road and will celebrate its official grand opening on Friday.

The new location features a much larger cool storage area in the 31,000-square foot facility.

Frank Shepard, President and CEO of Feeding the Valley says the new warehouse will allow them to store more meat and produce items.

"In the past, we have had to turn away loads of chicken and produce because we did not have the capacity. In this facility, we have that capacity. We can now have a lot more food and healthier foods that we can distribute to the community," Shepard said.

On Saturday at 8 a.m. Feeding the Valley will hold a 5K run called "Outrun Hunger."

A Fun Run for the kids follows the 5K.

Feeding the Valley serves 87,000 men, women & children in a 14-county area
