Detours and alternative routes due to I-85 bridge collapse

ATLANTA (WTVM) - Major traffic troubles expected after the fire and bridge collapsed on Interstate 85 north near Buckhead.

Today we learned the bridge on I-85 south was also impacted and will have to be replaced as well.

This could all take several months on one of Atlanta's busiest interstates.

It was reported Friday evening that 3 people have been arrested in connection with that massive fire.  the suspects as Basil Eleby, Sophia Bruner and Barry Thomas.

Officials have not yet identified exactly how the fire started but Eleby did say they used material that was on site.

In describing how firefighters were pulled from the scene, Atlanta fire Chief, Joel Baker, says, "They heard the cracking of the concrete. They were able to see the concrete was flying all over the place going towards the firefighters."

Interstate-85 is closed from I-75 or the Brookwood split to the North Druid Hills Exit.

Drivers traveling northbound on 85 from the south side of Atlanta will be diverted to northbound I-75 at Brookwood near 17th Street.

Southbound traffic on I-85 north of Atlanta will be diverted to State Road 400.

If you're traveling southbound on State Road 400 from north of Atlanta you'll be diverted at the Sidney Marcus exit.
